WEEK 8 | NANOTECH + ART
This week's lecture about NanoTech gives me an impression that the whole platform of both artists and scientists could be reshaped. Scientists broaden the depth of their research and artists open up the width of their perspectives. The collaborative art-sci work would eventually create a new landscape.
The research on Nanobots develops so fast that scientists predict that Nanobots will be flowing though human body by 2030. They carry ready-to-use programs and are injected into bloodstream, targeting on certain cancer cells. The precision and efficiency would be largely improved based on the actuate program implanted into Nanobots. Imagine how advanced this technology could be! When a patient gets multiple diseases, he/she does not need to get all the infected organs replaced. Rather, Nanobots would be injected once and multiple programs could be purchased and direct Nanobots to target disease at different locations. The physical pain, economic cost, and human labor would be drastically reduced through the invention of this single technology.
Also, for artists, due to the advancement of NanoTech, their creation platform is no loner limited to large scale canvas. The NanoArt Academy showed an artist work in the background of dead water. I was amazed by the rich color and delicate patterns of dead water on the nano scale, which is basically a brand new world with a vivid form. Another message of NanoArt is that people can basically create a world which resembles the macroscale world. For example, An art-sci collaborative work created a tiny stonehenge using copper pillars and silicon wafer bulk. The delicate arrangement under microscope even created a scared feeling for audience.
I have been thinking about how much NanoTech would expand our vision. If Nanobots would be widely applied in the future, the life span for human beings would absolutely increase magnificently. A normal person lives over 100 years old would not be a naive dream any more. Longevity objectively ensures the amount of time available for artist and scientist's creation process. If the two dimensions expand simultaneously due to the benefits of NanoTech, it would be hard to envision what would human civilization look like in the next fifty years.
